Product fields
Choosing a Google Product Category
The Google Product Category tells platforms what your product is, using Google's standard list of categories. Pinterest, Facebook, and Google all use it, and it decides which other fields a product needs.
Pick the right category
- In the Google Product Category field, start typing what the product is, such as "mug" or "canvas".
- Choose the most specific match from the list. "Home & Garden > Decor > Artwork > Posters, Prints & Visual Artwork" is better than "Home & Garden".
Not sure? Search the whole list with our free Google Product Category lookup, or read our guide on how to pick the right one.
Clothing and shoes need more fields
For products under Apparel & Accessories > Clothing or Shoes, Facebook, Google, and Bing also need a color, size, gender, and age group. The form tells you which ones are required for the category you picked, for example "Please select a gender - required for this Google Product Category."
Product Type is different
Product Type is optional and is your own category path, such as Wall Art > Canvas Prints > Floral. Use up to 5 levels separated by >. It's handy for grouping products into ad campaigns, but it doesn't replace the Google Product Category.
Bing
Bing has its own Product Category field. Use the same category path you'd use for Google.
