Writing product titles and descriptions

Updated

Length limits

  • Pinterest: titles up to 500 characters, descriptions up to 10,000.
  • Facebook: titles up to 200 characters (Facebook recommends under 65), descriptions up to 9,999.
  • Google: titles up to 150 characters, descriptions up to 5,000.
  • Bing: titles up to 150 characters, descriptions up to 10,000.

On a combined plan, the form uses the shortest limit of the platforms in your plan. If you go over, the form tells you before saving, and an import lists the row under failed rows.

Writing a good title

  • Put the most important words first: what the product is, then its key detail. For example, "Sunflower Canvas Print - Yellow Floral Wall Art, 16x20".
  • Use the words shoppers type, not internal names or codes.
  • Include color, size, or material when they matter to the buyer.
  • Skip all capitals, "Free shipping", "Sale!", and emoji. Platforms can reject promotional text.
  • Match your website. The title should describe the same product the shopper lands on.

Writing a good description

  • Lead with what the product is and who it's for, then cover materials, sizes, care, and what's included.
  • Use plain text. On Pinterest Enhanced, an HTML Description field is also available if you want formatting.
  • Don't include links, prices, or contact details. Platforms use their own fields for those.
